I don't understand why "free" is stressed when addressing account deletion. Just because a service is free doesn't mean we should have to jump through hoops just to terminate our accounts (free or not). Google offers tons of free services and deleting an account is made EXTREMELY simple.
I am highly irked by the fact that Oovoo doesn't have a simple "account cancellation" option. I understand Oovoo wanting and needing to have a large user base, but disabling a simple feature like a 'cancel account' option is not going to force users to stay with Oovoo. This is reminiscent of AOL's refusal to allow users to delete AOL accounts (highly annoying). So what if it's a free service?
I'm irritated because we're asked to give personal information during registration and yet there is no method to cut all ties with a company we no longer want to associate with. I'm a programmer, I understand how easy it is to delete information from a database, it doesn't require more than a few lines of code. This is obviously not a matter of difficultly in implementation, but legalistic reasoning and I am highly concerned about what Oovoo is doing with our personal information.
Just because we 'change' our user information doesn't mean it's disappeared by any means. What about server backups? It's still possible for Oovoo to have access to the initial information we signed up on the account.
I would also like my account to be deleted.
