FOR ALL AUDIO PROBLEMS - READ THIS FIRST!
Are you ALL using headsets with mics? ooVoo recommends that all parties use a headset with a mic. The reason we recommend this is because you must separate the speaker audio from going back into your microphone. If you do not do this, you can introduce all sorts of noise and echo into the conversation. If one user is not using a headset or has it improperly configured, it can cause problems for everyone.
ooVoo has some echo cancellation built into the product. This tries to prevent speaker audio from being fed back to the mic, but it can do only so much. If the speaker audio is blaring directly into the mic, you might get a choppy audio as the echo cancellation tries (in vain) to screen out all of the echo. If you or anyone else is not using a headset with a mic, please do so.
Knowing that others in your video conversation who do not use a headset (or have it improperly calibrated) may be introducing noise, echo into the system, can help you troubleshoot this issue. To find out who is causing the problem, have each participant mute their mike in turn while you listen for the echo (Have the remaining participants speak to cause an echo). When the echo disappears - the person whose mic is muted is usually the cause. It could be multiple people. Once you have located the offender. Have them use a headset and mic and calibrate their equipment. Sometimes people plug in a headset but the system is still using their Camera mic and PC speakers. They have to tell the system that they are now using something different. You can do this below:
To Calibrate the Microphone: Once you plug the headset in, open ooVoo and go to FILE / SETTINGS / AUDIO DEVICES - go to the microphone section and select your sound card (ie Realtech, Soundmax or SigmaTel etc…) in the "select a Microphone" dropdown. Then click "Test" and speak. When the microphone is recognized, click "Save". This should fix the problem. The audio on ooVoo should be crystal clear.
To Calibrate your Headphones: Pls go back to FILE/SETTINGS/AUDIO DEVICES/ and select your speakers (usually your sound card - ie Realtech, Soundmax or SigmaTel). Do a "test". Do you hear the music in your ear pieces? You can adjust the volume by sliding the blue dot.
Best Regards, ooVoo Dave
