To all ooVoo MAC users,

I am very pleased to let everyone know that we just released ooVoo ver. 2.1 for MAC users (available on the Download page).

Please allow me to present some highlights (please do not consider it official in case it’s not perfect...):

• For the most part the MAC and Windows versions are now identical which will provide all users with the same experience (you can learn more from the How-To-ooVoo page or from the online help accessed from the application). Please note that video effects are built-in for the MAC version.

• The new MAC version will enable users to purchase billing plans including phone minutes to phones in the US and Canada and blocking the display of advertisement banners. Nothing will change for ooVoo MAC users who have gotten used to our premium features and they will continue to be able to keep using 6-Way video (this could change in the future but for now please enjoy it!). New users will receive a trial version.

• Video chat room capabilities were added (just like the Windows version).

• Great efforts were made to improve performance related issues and this version will solve some problems experienced in previous versions.

We hope that everyone will have an incredible experience with this new MAC version and please let us know what you think of it.

This version is much more stable than the previous one, for against, I regret a bug when you click "Buy" (the phone) to buy a plan ooVoo, a blank window appears and nothing comes out.

for me it works - maybe it was a glitch with the internet

It's nice to see the Mac & PC versions of ooVoo on par with each other now. I have been using the new Mac version quite a bit and have found it to be very stable. Great to have all the Windows features now appearing on the Mac. Everything just works.

I had been using the MAC beta while eagerly awaiting this new release. So far so, it seems great, although I have yet to put it through its paces. I especially like the ability to set video resolution, frame rate....

One question I have is about the web video call. I've created a web video call button, which is a cool little feature. However, web video does not seem to work with Mac Safari 4.0 or Mac Firefox 3.0.11. and I get a message that says "We’re sorry, participating in a video call over the internet
is currently available in Safari only. * Not including Safari 4 beta."

Any input about this, and when web video will work with these browsers?

And do you have a list of browsers that do and do not work for both Mac and PC?

BTW: Apple announced that more than 11 million copies of Safari 4 were downloaded in the first three days of its release, including more than six million downloads of Safari for Windows.

I am considering offering small classes in my area of work and the web video call feature would be ideal.

Thanks for your post and it's good to hear that in general you are happy with the new version.

We are working on supporting more browsers for web video calls and this should be available in the near future.

For the Windows version we support IE 6-8, Firefox 3, Safari for Windows, Opera and other browsers should also work.

Currently for the MAC version we support Safari (except for Safari 4).

I just see that the problem I posted above is in fact the browser installed on my Mac, in fact, since I installed Safari 4, I have no advertisement, I have to a black rectangle. Not surprisingly, ooVoo 2.1.1.41 can not access a homepage because the browser is not compatible, if this problem could be remedied, it would be good!

 

And also, I noticed that the Windows version has many languages, and that the Mac version has only one single, English ... when does the French version of ooVoo for Mac released? And if possible, with as many languages as the Windows version? Thank you,

Thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing. I only know about the problem with web video calls when using Safari 4 and will ask QA to look into this. We are working on browser compatibility issues and hopefully they will be solved quickly.

A lot of effort was made to make the leap from ver. 1.7 to 2.1 and to bridge the gap between the Windows and MAC versions. Due to time considerations we were not able to add languages for MAC ver. 2.1.

@Vista13,  I think oovoo marvin is saying they didn't have enough time to add other langauges in the mac version. So please be patient it will be added in due course in future release with updates.

We just released a new MAC version on the Download page (2.1.1.71) which now supports Safari 4. It has resolved the issues with pop-ups when using Safari 4.

To all the Safari 4 users, thank you for your patience and I hope all our MAC users will enjoy using this new ooVoo version.

Hi Marv, I'm using the MAC version and trying it with 5 friends, and it works well. A few of of friends have reported ooVoo can take large amounts (50%) of their CPU, as an aside. I just went to sign up for a monthly license so I can use it for multi-user conferences after the 30 day multi-user trial but: 1. The plans say that only Windows plans are available 2. I can't tell if I just need one 6 seat plan to then connect my 5 other friends (who would not need a plan), or if we all need a seat/plan. Thanks, Dan

The latest Mac oovoo update is currently now available is v2.2.0.89 from the download page !
