high cpu usage and it freezes my laptop

Hi. Can someone help me try and find a solution to problem?  I am using a Dell Studio 1555.
I am using a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 Ghz and 4GB of RAM.

I do not know why this is happening. I have tried to low my resolution from normal to low resolution and I have lowered the frame rate. This only works for a couple minutes into the webchat. After 15 minutes or so, my CPU usage stays at 100% and freezes my whole laptop.

Does anyone have any solution to this problems?

     Thanks, silverboi17.

    Hi Silverboi,

Sorry to hear about this problem. From your system specs you should not have a problem using ooVoo.

Do you have some other CPU intensive application open, or something else running in the background?  For instance, some people have a disk backup program running that saves all open documents every 15 minutes or so. This drives up the CPU Usage. You can check for something like this in Task Manager: CONTROL-ALT-DELETE/PROCESSES/ click on the heading "CPU" twice to sort CPU usage from greatest to least. Then have a look to see if anything else is running up your CPU. You will want to close this application.

silverboi, i have an acer notebook with a core 2 solo 1.4gHz....and when i cut off other processes it seems to, though laboriously, work fine. that leads me to my question now. oovoo uses about 88% of my cpu when i really cut down on background processes. is there anything i can do to maximize the capabilities of my cpu so that i may be able to somewhat multitask? i was thinking of having to replace the cpu with something with more ghz, but really wanted to make sure of other possibilities before shedding out $300-400 on a notebook cpu Thanks S

well, i don't think it is possible for you to multitask when you're on oovoo with an intel core 2 solo. if you want your oovoo to be fully functional with some usage not in used, then you would have to terminate some of those unuse and/or unwanted processes. sorry, you may want to upgrade your processor to a core 2 duo or get a good p4? sorry, i am having trouble myself getting my CPU usage low.

     Hey Dave,

For my processes, none of them are using are up a high percentage of my CPU. There are all either 00 or 09 at most. I have webchat with my friends again and it keeps happening. I do not know what is the problem. I thought my laptop's specs would be more than qualified to function fine.... I am running Windows Vista 64 bit OS with 4GB memory and Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 Ghz.

     Thanks,

P4 is Intel Pentium 4 processor. I believe and heard that it is decent if you use that processor to multitask. Plus my laptop is for college too.

    arent those out dated?

P4 or my specs? Yes, P4 is sorta out of date. I am not sure whether Core 2 Solo is newer than P4. I cannot recall, but my friends are using their old P4 laptops with oovoo and it's fine, but somehow I cannot work mine with these specs. I have tried again and my CPU usage is so high. I do not understand why this is happening.

I am using Windows Vista 64 bit OS with 4 GB ram, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 Ghz, and my internet connection is working. Oovoo should run smoothly, but my oovoo does not. I have tried it again after I restored my laptop to factory settings and the webcam freezing first. After it freezes my whole laptop. I do not understand why this is happening. I have also tried to low the resolution and fps along with terminating some of the processes and it still happens. Can someone please help me out?

    Hi Silverboi17,

Quick question  - At what point does your CPU jumps into high usage. For example when your running oovoo on your system, but not in a video call. Or does it rise when your trying to initiate a conferance video call?

    call fortra

Hey. Yeah when I am just running oovoo itself, my CPU usage jumps up high. Then when I'm making a conference call, my usage jumps higher and sometimes stays at 100% and freezes my face on my side and my friends' side of the call. Why do you have the same problem I do? Silverboi17
