it says that my camera can not be detected, idk what to do.

i just downloaded oovoo seeing as all my friends have one. i have an imac, and when entering the oovoo video chat, i could see my friend perfectly, but her and i, could not see me. instead, there was the oovoo figure thing. when i went to do the whole press file, then test out your camera thing, it wasn't clickable. and it said somewhere else that my camera could not be detected. what do i do ?

    Hi corriecatastrophe,

Are you using the built in webcam? If not, which one are you using?

Please make sure there is no other program that uses the webcam while you are testing the camera on ooVoo.

Last, Make sure you have all the latest updates installed on your Mac.

Please let me know if non of the above helps.

    Thanks,

    Yasmin.

Mine is doing the same thing. I have a Macally USB cam. When I test the cam, it shows it's working fine. I can leave video messages for people. I just can't have a video convo with anyone. I can see them, but they can't see me. I have a crossed-out cam icon in on my side of the convo. I tried reinstalling. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong? Thanks. Kara

    Hi Kara,

I think the 'Show my video automatically when starting a video conversation' option is not checked in your privacy preferences. This causes your camera to be muted automatically when joining a video call. I suggest you uncheck this option or simply click on the crossed-out web cam icon to unmute your camera.

I hope this helps and hope you will have a great time on ooVoo.

    Thanks,
    Marvin

I use a macbook and am running leopard. I have oovoo installed but for some reason I can't get my camera to be detected. It is not being used by any other program it's just oovoo does not list my webcam as any option! Is there some sort of firmware I should be installing prior to using oovoo?

    thanks!

    Hi,

    Please try the following:

    1. Check that your camera is connected to your computer.
    2. If you have more than one camera (in some cases software programs can be considered a camera), select 'Test webcam' from the 'File' menu and select a different camera from the drop-down menu. If your camera is not listed there, you will need to download and install a driver for the camera from the manufacturer’s site. It's recommended to unplug your camera before downloading and installing the driver and to plug it back in when prompted to plug it in. Afterwards click 'Test' from the ooVoo camera settings window.
    3. If the camera was installed and/or plugged in after starting ooVoo, sign-out from ooVoo and then sign-in again.

    Thanks,
    ooVoo Marv
