I just tried oovoo with Ubuntu 9.10 and the latest release of Wine... I can install the application and get to the main screen... Some of the text boxes aren't displaying properly, but I can put in my name and password. However, it won't connect (even though it says I'm online after logging in)...

With earlier versions of Wine, I couldn't even get the installer to run, so this looks very promising... I'm going to tweak my wine settings a bit and see what I can get. This would be HUGE for me, as we have a bunch of netbooks with Ubuntu on them, and the Department of Health wants to use oovoo for conference calls critical because of the H1N1 outbreak going on. Right now it's not so bad because they can conference in on their desktops, but if there is any type of qurantine, or for users at remote field clinics, they can't get in with the netbooks...

i'm USER LINUX for EVER!!! i need OOVOO version for LINUX..where is open project for roadmap oovoo 4 linux?

i think:

team oovoo can get it open source to develop team linux for to begin to build version linux, this is good idea or not? more people have linux..

i'm teacher, i teach to student to learn "linux use it" also pubblic goverment, hospidal, etc..

so i vote "oovoo 4 linux" i'm not important for distro "UBUNTU" or "FEDORA" or "OPENSUSE" or "DEBIAN", important is code and (make or Cmake or RPM) so all people world can help to convert to all distro RPM or DEB or Cmake or Terminal ok?

for me team OOVOO wanted "important" is to diffuse all people to use oovoo and more more users to use it!

example oovoo for windows = 60% users and mac = 20%, linux = 20% , but team oovoo wanted all % like 10000% use it so they use version windows and mac..but also linux is grow up people use linux for freedoom and free software ok?

this is important for oovoo wanted more more more users use oovoo, so i think team oovoo can build oovoo for linux for new users, if team oovoo can not build oovoo for linux then team oovoo call to linux.org or look for develop linux for build it,, develop linux can find easy, find from forum linux or forum of ubuntu or forum of opensuse o other distro for cooperative right?

other poblem: my students use all linux 100% for now my students are 150, for future new is 250, so i think team oovoo interessant 350 students use oovoo right? i say you team oovoo good lucky for build oovoo 4 linux, god bless you team develop byebye tunjin.

ps. maybe next year i will teach my students in africa maybe will be student:500 students...this is important.. byebye

But the only thing they would need is to work make the oovoo aplication runnable under linux then to look how tu use libraries disponible for linux or build the owner ones and make a repo to download them, then just make it disponible for i386, x86_64 and ppc, then it is done, if it is done under java, i do not know if unix support, i have not touch it so much but linux, window and mac support it, so it does not matter if the distro is mandriva, fedora, ubuntu, redhat, etc. Just working in one it should be portable in others. I have install CPanel under opensuse and others distro, the only problem is the support, they says it is only for Centos, but is like that just having the need packages the application should run without problems.

So they must not worry for porting it into every distro, they just should release for each arch and give the libreries or links of libreries used, to download, besides that, linux users should deal with a dependency or a lack of libreries. Once fullfilled the deps it should work like a butter any linux.

Is like when Ubuntu 6.0 was released it did not have the ntfs-3g driver so when an user boot in live the distro, was needed to download the driver and dependecies need for that packages, so the idea is the same one package, all distros has the same kernel(differents version of course but linux won change so dramatically), so if it runs in one version it should work in others, the bugs and problems will be fixed on the run.

Well is more o less the idea is like that the .tar.gz works, they are built with the compilers of the runned distro it is being installed. So i will say it again, i am stopping the idea to test oovoo under linux.

RFM Please, manual pages and what Linux is (Linux is just the kernel), fedora, Ubuntu, debian, suse, etc., are just names of distros that with GNU Tools make an OS, then the developers give it a name. I was saying Linux because is general, linux is the kernel. If in your world understand UBUNTU=Linux, "I am from hearth, you from space".

Eny one understood that when i said Linux i refer to the kernel and not to an specific Distro. GNU/Linux != M$ Window$, please stop learnig how to keep doing clicks and read more. I am sure you are the kind of person who does not read the instructions before use.

And if Ubuntu is the best?, is another distro, there is not distro better than another one, learn to read english, i just said that ubuntu is no making contribution to the free software, is just depending on it. That users like Ubuntu is their problem, i am just saying that i do not agree the way Ubuntu is taking, and the quality of users it is calling. But as i said before it is another topic. All the users now uses GNU/Linux and always have used GNU/Linux because you can not do nothing just with a kernel with tools, is like: "What would you do just with a motor of a car without the others parts? A: Nothing!", well, it is clear were do you come from (UBUNTU) and you are a clear example why a lot of GNU/linux users get mad with Ubuntu users.

And sorry if i sound hard, but you are saying senseless things, and it is obviously you did not do your task in reading.

And another thing i did not read nothing about "Linux is not linux", you has said everything with that. and please be polite the next time. Do not give more reasons to other people to hate GNU/Linux distros, they will think all of us are like you.

Changing the topic i will try to run oovoo with wine, the emulation is not cool but i have been busy to try it, somebody has try it? i do not want to virtualice M$ just for using oovoo.

linux is linux, thats a fact, linux was written on the unix kernel by linus, the man himself created the free desktop enviornment for anyone to use, and thus it has evolved with many people in the world making more and more free software for others to use. Fact: macintosh is written from the kernel of "Unix". Fact: linux is written from the kernel of.....thats right...."Unix"

If ooVoo makes a linux version, they will have to take many things into account, like, all major distro's for example : Redhat/Fedora/Ubuntu/Gentoo/Slackware

my advise to the guys in programming, go with the systems that have been out there for some time. but dont leave out the other guys either, Ubuntu is a fairly new distro in compairison to other distros.

If the ooVoo programming team is considering looking for beta testers, check out http://www.justlinux.com plenty of guys and gals willing to rack there brains and beta test, Ide be one of them.
