Hans, by "other people" I think you mean more than 1 person. Even if it's more than 1 person, it's still possible that these people have their microphones muted (in the video call window they can check if the microphone icon is muted although their mic. can also be muted on the microphone). I suggest you check your speakers (File>Settings>Audio Devices). You may need to select your set of speakers from this tab. Your friends can also check their microphone from the same Settings tab.

I hope this helps. ooVooDave is the expert but I thought it would be nice to jump in here. If you continue to have problems, please feel free to open a support request.

    Thanks,
    Marvin

Re: Can't hear other people's voice.

    .....Thanks, Marvin.

    Hi Hans,

If you cannot hear the other person, it can be either on your side or theirs.

Please confirm that you have done the following:

Please open ooVoo and go to FILE/SETTINGS/AUDIO DEVICES/ under the "Speakers Section",  click "Test". Do you hear the test music? If so your speakers are set OK for ooVoo.

If you do not hear the music, please go through each of the options in the "Select the speakers for audio" and click "Test" until you are able to hear the audio through your speakers or headset. Once you find this setting, please click "save".

The problem could also be with the Mic of the person you are talking to. Please have the person that you are talking to do the following:To calibrate their Mic they will need to open ooVoo and go to:
FILE/SETTINGS/AUDIO DEVICES/ select their mic (usually their sound card) and click "Test". Immediately speak into the mic. Does their microphone pass the test? If Yes, click "Save".
Now try ooVoo and let me know if you are successful.

If you are using Vista:The problem you are experiencing could be a setting in Vista. Please do the following:START/CONTROL PANEL/SOUND/ click on "Speakers"/ADVANCED/ under Exclusive Mode, uncheck the boxes: "Allow application to take exclusive control of this device" - and - "Give exclusive mode applications a priority". Click "Apply" and "OK".Reboot and Retry.

If you still have no audio and are on Vista, try this: In the Sounds control panel, Playback tab, if you open the properties of the output device (Speakers usually), and go to the Advanced tab, there the Default Format needs to be set to 16 bit, 44100 Hz. You end up with no audio from oovoo if it is set at a high setting (like 24 bit, 96k Hz). Let me know if this fixes the problem

    Best Regards,
    ooVoo Dave

It saddens me to say this but, I've done everything you suggested on this page and still no results. Is it because i dont have a webcam set up?

I do have windows vista is that a problem?

I mean I can see video and people can even see me but neither of us can hear one another

Re: Can't hear other people's voice.

    Hey man.

I am having the same exact problem as you are. I created a topic, feel free to read it.

ALL of my tests passed but I still cannot hear people, yet i can hear program noises. Plus, if I send a "video message" I cant hear myself when I play it back until i send it to an email and listen to it.

It seems I cannot listen to any streamed audio in this program. I am having the same problem you are, and I have also tried all of the above options.

Re: Can't hear other people's voice.

    Hi,

Please note that both Windows Vista and Windows 7 have a special audio setting (please see what ooVoo Dave wrote above).

Please make sure you are using the latest ooVoo version and test your audio in ooVoo. You may need to select a different sound device.

This may sound obvious, but it happens all the time. Sometimes there is a mute button on the microphone and someone presses it by mistake (kids getting into mischief, cleaning, etc.) or the mic. plug isn't connected properly. Please check that no one has a muted microphone (you can send a text chat message to ask). Also, some people accidentally mute their microphone by clicking on the microphone icon in the Video Call window.

If you continue to experience problems, please submit a support request and send logs (as described in the link). When you try to recreate the scenario, try to record a video message and play it, and then start a video call.

We hope your sound issues will be resolved as soon as possible so you can enjoy using ooVoo,
    ooVoo Marv

p.s. To answer a question about webcams, ooVoo does not require a webcam but it's highly recommended.

I have sent in the logs. It was quite alot so hopefully that wont be a major issue.

-I know that they are not muting me because it still did not work when I tried it with two computers in front of me in the same call.

-I can not hear myself when I play back a video message, when my mic works just fine in all calls.

-I have unchecked all boxes told to on all sound devices.

     Still no sound.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Can't hear other people's voice.

    Hey guys,

I'm having the same problem. I just installed windows 7 on my PC and have the updated audio driver. I've done everything oovoo Dave suggested, the testing, the calibrating, reinstalling, but none of it is working. The testing and calibrating shows me normal results. My microphone is detected, and i can hear the testing music just fine.

I can hear the ringer when i'm calling, or being called, but once it's connected, then no sound comes from the other end. I have made sure that the other side is not muted and have also tried with several users. So it is definitely a problem on my end. I am currently using a Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX, p/n: 861194-0000. any suggestions?

Re: Can't hear other people's voice.

    Hi All,

If you do not have sound on ooVoo, please Update your Sound Card Driver.

To do this you will first need to determine what sound card you have. Open ooVoo and go to FILE/SETTINGS/AUDIO DEVICES/ and click the dropdown menu under "Select the speakers for audio". Your sound card should be one of the items listed there. It is not "Windows Default Device". Typical sound cards are called "SoundMAX" "SigmaTel", "RealTech", or "Conexant". There are others.

Next, Go to your computer manufacturer's website. Search for the section for drivers. Download and install the latest Sound Card driver (SoundMax, SignaTel etc.....) for your model and operating system. Follow the wizard installation instructions. It is very important that you successfully install this driver update. If something is preventing you from doing this, or you get an error message when trying - let me know. After you are done, I recommend that you reboot. Now, try ooVoo again.

    Best Regards,
    ooVoo Dave
